Boardwalk Replacement!

Incase you haven't heard, the boardwalk is currently in the process of being completely rebuilt!

Board by Board is an exciting new campaign that was launched by the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Parkin conjunction with Park Restoration.  Click Here to learn more about the campaign and see how you can be a part of it!

This past weekend, the first 60ft section of the 650 foot Boardwalk was removed (as you can see in the following snapshots).

The plan is to have this section replaced by Memorial Day weekend.

Fun Fact!
Did you know that the original height of Conneaut Lake's waterline was considerably higher at one time?  Years ago, several feet of water were drained from the lake.  In 1936 when the boardwalk was first constructed, they built it at the same level as the original water line!

Dockages

During the winter months, when the ice on Conneaut Lake is thick enough to safely walk on, the wooden boat docks take a beating.  As the ice freezes, it expands and puts pressure on the docks along the water's edge.  Then when the ice starts to melt and break into pieces, the wind blows them to shore thus putting additional pressure on the dock structure.

Currently, we're in the process of reversing the damage and sustaining the docks for boaters.  As you can see, we removed the ice damaged docks.

We have also begun rebuilding the support structure and walkways.

Upcoming Work:

With some rework and modifications, we will reuse 95% of the original dock planks and decking.  We plan to install portable floating slips to enable removal of the majority of the structure after the season ends.  At that time we'll be able to simply pull them out of the water, store them in a dry are, and then in the following spring next season place them back on the Lake.

Also in the works is a plan to incorporate ample space for jet ski docking.  We understand this has been problematic in past seasons and we are working to reverse that as well.

Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more updates!

Ballroom Renovations

As you can see, we're in the process of renovating the hotel's Crystal Ballroom.  Built over 80 years ago as an addition to the original structure, it was in need of some TLC and updating.

In this renovation we took down the ceiling to repair the plumbing and electrical system above.  This will result in a brand new ceiling for the ballroom.

Although the ballroom and hotel offers breathtaking views of the lake and guests can enjoy its breezes, those utilizing this space will now have the option of air conditioning.  In order to conserve energy, the room is also being insulated.  We drilled holes in the plaster about every 16 or so inches in order to "blow in" the insulation.  So far, we've used a total of 360 bags!  (Don't worry, we'll patch the holes when we're finished!)
